Peer Counselor Manager Training

The Peer Manager Training will provide attendees with the necessary information, skills and administrative tools for implementing and managing a peer counseling program. Attendees will learn about reports to use in assisting peer counselors in meeting the needs of their clients. After attending this training, the learner will be able to return to their agency and be able to manage a quality Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program utilizing the tools provided from the USDA Breastfeeding Curriculum and MDHHS website

A total of 2.50 Nursing contact hours have been awarded for this activity by the Michigan Public Health Institute – Continuing Education Solutions.

A total of 2.50 CERPs in topics on the IBCLE Exam Blueprint have been awarded by Michigan Public Health Institute – Continuing Education Solutions.

2.5 educational hours for other healthcare professionals has been approved. A Certificate of Attendance with educational hours will be provided for healthcare professionals who can self-report.

2024 Peer Counselor Manager Training – Purpose, Objectives, and Disclosures

The training is intended for new Michigan WIC local agency staff who manage the breastfeeding peer counselor program, Breastfeeding Coordinators/Peer Counselor Managers. There are no prerequisites or attendance limits.

Participants will be able to:

  • Utilize tools from the USDA Peer Manager Training curriculum to manage a successful breastfeeding peer counselor program.
  • Implement standard breastfeeding peer counselor polices and best practices learned from this training.
  • Monitor the progress of the peer counselor and quality of the peer counselor program utilizing tools available in the resources list for this training and on the MDHHS website.

The is a live virtual training that will take place from 8:00am- 11:30am. Currently, there is no fee for this training. The deadline for registration is 4 days before the training begins.

Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email. Before the training, attendees will receive an email with a Zoom registration link. Please register with Zoom prior to the training. Once attendees register with Zoom, they will be sent a unique link to access the training. Do not share this link.
